Serious?! School Supplies Already??

Yesterday I was walking through Walmart (certainly not my shopping location of choice - but we needed tp and it was on the way home....) and low and behold what did I see??? SCHOOL SUPPLIES for sale in the aisle ways already!!

Just last weekend was the 4th of July. And in my growing up years, school didn't even register in my mind until the beginning of August.

Now I am all for school/office supplies - Actually a few of my very favorite things are fresh pencils and notbooks, but serious? Isn't it too early?

Next thing you know, they will have Halloween stuff out next week! Can't we just enjoy each season and event as they come in the calendar? Not 6 months ahead. The last few years I was Christmas'ed out by Thanksgiving!!

On the other hand - crayons were on sale for .22 cents. Awesome. Picked up a new pack to enjoy with Henry. ok, the truth is, they are just for me. :)

*Hopefully the next few posts will be on my current WIP. A honest to goodness big girl quilt that I am doing the 'right' way from start to finish. It is going to be awesome!

Birthday Knitting

With a birthday around the corner at the beginning of February - I am knitting myself a present. I was planning on knitting this little Drops number; which I feel in love with when I saw FlintKnit's post about her sweater.

But the more I look at my yarn for it, it just makes me feel a little dreary. It is a great color yarn, but right now I am not thinking Tweedy Brown; I am thinking towards spring. I was so excited about this in the fall, but I never got time to get moving on it. And given that it is a new year and spring will be here by the time I would actually finish it....I think it may wait until this fall to be made.

So now with Valentines and a Birthday in February, I am planning on completing my FIRST pair of socks. And while I have a nice small stash of sock yarn and plans for it all, I am pulling out my Flamingo Lorna's Laces yarn to make Thuja's .I would like to see the stripping and have a simple pattern to knit at the same time.

Right now, I think they have gotten off to a pretty good start.

Oh! Pinwheel - you pain me so!

Little Miss M turned 2 yrs old on Saturday and from searching on Ravelry, I had found the perfect pattern for the little Red Headed Irish girl. It is the Pinwheel Sweater for children from Elann.com. From all the notes about it on Ravelry, I knew it ran a little small - but she is just a 2 yr old! and unfortunately it was a little snug. :(

I have gone to get a button so that she can have it buttoned to hold it closed, and I think it needs some good stretch blocking!

I still love the pattern and the result - but am majorly dissapointed in the sizing. I hope my blocking works - otherwise this little sweater may need some more help.
Anybody have any ideas on how to make it work as is? Ribbon closure through the loops?

*On another note - my sewing machine has made it back onto my craft table and I recently bought this little beauty.....

A Brother 1034D. if only I knew how to use it....luckily for me - there was a DVD that came with it!

I plan on working on some new projects that I have in mind and to make more aprons and box bags - as to be seen in the next post.

Ok I think things will start to look better around here - I would still like to do further improvements - but what a different just a new template makes - the plain white one just wasn't me and I couldn't get it to look 'neat' the way I wanted it to. So subtle changes may occur but I do like this now.

Under Construction

As it is a new year - and I wanted to make my blog a little more interesting - I have started to tink with things around here - so at times this little area may not be so appealing - but I am learning and things will get better!

Fresh Beginnings

Ok so I haven't been the best blogger this last month - but that was then, and this is a New Year. A time where everything is fresh and new again. The calendar is new, fresh, and not yet filled with all sorts of appointments and personal obligations. How exciting is that?!?! It is like a brand new notebook at the first day of school. Sure it will be used, written in and partly thrown out; but on that first day, the first few hours - it is still fresh and new. Just like a New Year.
So here is my plan for this year - hopefully most if not all of these plans work out; but only time will tell.

Of course the reoccuring goal - get healthier and work out more. Now that we are finally settling into the house and the hubby attacked the basement over break - the treadmill is all set up and ready to be used. I have missed that treadmill and haven't been able to use it since having Henry - umm....19 months ago! I am setting the goal of 40 minutes each work out and the easy goal of 4 days a week. Other ways to aid in getting healthier; stop drinking pop, do meal planning, and insert more veggies into our meals.

Repurpose items and give handmade gifts - I am so sick of running out to the store to buy something and only to come back home with more 'stuff'. So this year I am changing that up - the old clothes that I refuse to wear or don't fit are going to be set up as spare fabric, and for presents throughout the year I plan on making something as much as possible. (Within the next few posts I will share my first gift of the new year)

Work out a budget and stick to it as much as possible. As the economy here in Michigan sways ever more, the hubby and I are concerned about jobs and settling down long term. We have his college to pay off and we would like to have more money set aside then we have currently.

Goals for Mom and Henry - Potty training, doing more crafts and creative play.
So I think that sums up the majority of my goal setting for this year. I think they are all do-able, I just have to stick with them and be honest with myself to stop myself from creating projects and goals that will just take too much time.

Next post (or two) I will try to catch up on finished projects and holiday fun!

*On the topic of new year goals - what are yours?

Guess Who is seeing.....

ME!!

Hubby authorized the early present - however the concert isn't until end of February. But this gal is majorly excited!

On another note - Christmas knitting is on going - but focus has shifted and I have a sweater vest on the needles for the hubby. We are traveling next week and I will be packing this one in the suitcase - now I just need a plane project - JUST IN CASE the little guy behaves and sleeps on the way. (Not going to happen, is it?!?!
